Today I would like to talk about computer backup solutions. There are many – both commercial and free.
EaseUS Todo Backup Free is one example of a free offering that I find extremely easy to use. Basically a set-it-and-forget-it program, it runs in the background backing up your vital computer programs, data files, and programs once you have set up a schedule.
The Interface and Ease of Use

As you can see the interface is very clean and intuitive. Three tabs across the top (excluding the Upgrade tab), give you varying Management options and a log viewer so you can see what has been accomplished to date.
The Backups
I ran several different types of backups. Full, Incremental, and Differential backups are all supported. A System backup is also available.
You have complete control of what you want to back up, whether it be simply files, or entire drives or partitions. Just as important to me is the control it offers over where the backups are stored.
Based on comparisons I made against a commercial program, the time it took to create the full backups was right on par. I did have to set the compression to high in order to match it, however. I didn’t notice a great increase in time to complete the tasks at the higher compression levels, though.
The Management Tab
Under the Management Tab you will find everything you need to set up your backups. This includes Scheduling, What to back up, Where to store your backups, and much more.

What I found very interesting is an Advanced option to convert your stored images to VMWare or VirtualBox images.
Recovery
No backup program is worth it’s salt without good, reliable recovery capabilities and it would seem that EaseUS has done its homework.
I completed a complete restore of my system drive in 16 minutes. This is actually a tad faster than my expensive commercial software manages and the recovery worked flawlessly.
An added benefit is that the Recovery process offers an SSD optimization option to assure that your image is aligned properly on the solid state drive. This is a great perquisite when you consider this is free software.
From the EaseUS help file:
If the destination disk is SSD, ticking the box Optimize for SSD will ensure sector alignment in the process, and the chance of successfully booting from the SSD after recovery will be increased.
Conclusion
A good backup solution is imperative in today’s computing world and EaseUS Todo Backup Free 4.0 certainly fits the bill.
Without hesitation I can wholeheartedly recommend this backup program to everyone. There are far too many great features in this program to mention here but some highlights should be noted:
- Great compression and speed
- Ease of use – also many advanced features commonly found only in commercial software
- Stability – I tried to ‘break’ this program in several ways but it was rock-solid
- Ability to change Partition size during the recovery process. Wow! In a free program?!
- SSD aware
- A very flexible scheduling system (it worked perfectly on my computer over a 5-day testing period)
- Extensive web-based help system that will answer any questions you may have. Absolutely great support!
…and the list goes on…
I give EaseUS Todo Backup Free 4.0 two very strong thumbs up.
